Well ! I’ll tell you a little story shall I? 4 years ago I was off on holiday only Butlins nothing super tropical but a holiday all the same.
I was just getting ready to go down to the pool when I turned into the mirror to tie my hair up ….. WOW! I’d only gone and forgotten to wax my armpits before we left , I'd done everything else but I’d forgotten the underarms . Absolutely determined not to ruin my waxing schedule off I trundled to the onsite shop and grabbed myself a wax kit.
Got back to the chalet and proceeded to wax my armpits, bearing in mind I wax people for a living and I was under no illusion that the quality would not match that of the products in the salon, I was not prepared for what was to come ….
I continued to warm the strips up in my hands and apply to underarm, stretched the skin and rip … OUCHIE , OMG !
I was absolutely shocked at the result. It STUNG like I’ve never experienced before not even when I’ve had my apprentices wax me had I experienced that type of sting, but never mind I continued on my mission ….. raised my arm again to check if I needed a reapplication and right there, not only very red skin (which I was expecting after that sting) but, in the reflection in the mirror I’m guessing about 50% of the hair … it had barely touched the hair!
Ok, lets try this 1 more time – to be fair I went against my better judgement here, as the skin was already irritated I shouldn’t really have gone in again, but I was trying to establish what had gone wrong ( the beauty therapist in me deserved further knowledge lol) warmed it up again this time for allot longer than previous I could feel the warmth of the wax and went for it. STING ! 2nd time ……. A few deep breaths and checked the strip, I measly 7 hairs ! yup I counted them ….. at this point I gave up !
My armpit was stinging like no other and allot of hair still remained now stuck down to the skin with the amount of wax that had also been left behind on my skin ….. I doused myself with baby powder to temporarily avoid it sticking my armpit together as by this point I had a very impatient little one moaning as she wanted to go swimming! At which point I decided no more, grabbed a t-shirt and for the reminder of that day sat at the side of pool watching her swim …
Chlorine + Sore skin = Not a good idea.
My point really is no wonder people say waxing hurts! And they’d never wax again. My question is have homekits put you off getting waxed? If, so I challenge you to go to the experts and give it another go …
Don’t get me wrong it’s never going to be painless at the end of the day we are ripping hair out by the follicle, but it should NEVER be that painful!
